Barcelona

The ship docked in Barcelona on a wet morning at 6 am. We were off early & took a cab to our hotel. The location was fantastic, just off the main plaza Las Ramblas. Needless to say, that early in the morning, our room wasn’t ready so we sat in the lounge charging phones & laptops & catching up on emails etc until the shops opened.

We started  our sightseeing on Las Ramblas & came first upon the markets. It was truly a terrific sight. So many beautiful foods, colours & amazing atmosphere. Temptation overtook us & we enjoyed some yummy treats for breakfast.  We then headed to Placa Catalunya to catch the hop on hop off bus and enjoyed seeing the sights of Barcelona. There are two routes for the buses & we took the red route first, passing by Gaudi’s Casa Vicens, La Pedrera & then onto the gardens of Montjuic & the fort. We caught the cablecar up to the fort& had a great look through. There was some fantastic views out over Barcelona too.

Back on the bus then hopped off again at the Port & scored Josh a Barcelona FC football shirt from one of the MANY African hawkers. We then walked back up Las Ramblas & back on the bus taking the blue route. We stopped first at Parc Guell hoping to get into see the main building & mosaics but alas it was a timed entry & we just didn’t have the time to wait around. We enjoyed wandering around the gardens though and the views of Barcelona.

We stopped at a restaurant for lunch just down the road and had a great drink & tapas. It was then back on the bus & off to Sagrada Familia. Oh my goodness what an amazing building. Again however the tickets were timed & we weren’t able to get in until too late in the afternoon.
